Abstract

The transformation of aromatic anilides into aromatic aldehydes involves multistep process and is generally referred to as the Sonn–Müller reaction. The reducing reagents, which are used in the reaction are anhydrous stannous chloride and hydrogen chloride and produce the imines. This reaction has a limited application in organic synthesis.
