What is CoLab?

CoLab is a platform that provides access to information about the activities of scientists, organizations and laboratories for their collaboration.

Who is CoLab for?

CoLab allows you to create a personal profile with automatic uploading of publications, regular updating of publication statistics, and an individual article recommendation system, as well as to find colleagues with similar scientific interests or the required competencies for potential collaborations, laboratories for writing a diploma or term paper, conferences in areas of interest, or to place announcements for mutual assistance between scientists.

The platform has a database of scientific organizations from all over the world, and for each organization, a list of publications and statistics is available.

Users can also access the Cobalt search engine, which is based on Cobalt's proprietary metadata database of all 115 million+ publications and 1.5 billion+ citations.

To report a problem or leave feedback on the platform, you should click on the question mark in the upper right corner of the page or write to info@colab.ws. There is also a technical support chat on Telegram: https://t.me/colab_ws_support. Our team is always ready to help in case of errors, to hear comments about the work of the platform, or to hear user suggestions.

Why fill out your profile as completely as possible?

Filling out your profile as completely as possible will help us to automatically upload your articles, other scientists to find colleagues with similar research interests and collaborators, and employers to find new staff thanks to the CV upload function. We also create customized compilations of recommended recent publications and upcoming conferences according to your areas of research.

What's the point of adding a laboratory?

Registering a laboratory on the platform will allow your team to tell you about their work, research methods, and equipment used. This allows you to search for collaborations and attract new staff. In addition, any user will be able to familiarize themselves with the information about the publications of the laboratory, as well as download it in the form of a convenient Excel table for the formation of reports and applications. The publications of the team are downloaded and updated automatically.

How do we collect data?

We aggregate open data from projects such as Crossref, ORCID, ROR, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, and data from Open Access publications, and we also use web parsing of those resources that do not prohibit such data collection. We do not collect information that is not in the public domain and operate on the same basis as OpenAlex and the Russian Center for Scientific Information. The data we collect is structured using text recognition and categorization algorithms that we have developed. This allows us to establish affiliations with authors and organizations on our platform and to build links between publications that cite each other. The cycle of obtaining and processing new data takes on average 24 hours, but the frequency of updating individual indicators can be increased to one month. Based on the personal data provided by users in accordance with the privacy policy, we form individual recommendations and use the processed publication data for statistical calculations of the publication statistics of authors and organizations. The data provided on the platform may differ from the data provided by other online resources.
