Trifluoromethylation with CF 3 I and Other Related Reagents

Publication typeOther
Publication date2022-01-21
Abstract
Due to the extraordinary increase in the use of trifluoromethyl (CF 3 ) group in life and material sciences, there has been an emerging interest in the development of synthetic methodologies for CF 3 -containing compounds. This chapter will provide an overview of the trifluoromethylation reactions of diverse families of organic substrates with C1 trifluoromethylating reagents, namely trifluoroiodomethane (CF 3 I), bromotrifluoromethane (CF 3 Br), trifluoromethanesulfonyl chloride (CF 3 SO 2 Cl), sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate (CF 3 SO 2 Na), and fluoroform (CF 3 H). The main content of this chapter covers the applications of CF 3 I, CF 3 Br, CF 3 SO 2 Cl, and CF 3 SO 2 Na in the radical trifluoromethylation of alkenes, alkynes, (hetero)arenes, and so on. Detailed mechanisms are discussed for representative reactions. At the end of this chapter, nucleophilic trifluoromethylation reactions with CF 3 H are presented.
