Abstract
In recent years, benzimidazole based N-heterocyclic metal complexes has been increasingly employed as catalysts in a variety of organic transformations including C−C cross-coupling reactions and hydrofunctionalisation reactions. The ease of tailoring the benzimidazole scaffold both electronically and sterically helps in generating potential catalysts for the desired transformation. This review highlights the recent advances in benzimidazole based NHC-metal complex catalysed cross-coupling reactions such as Heck coupling, Sonogashira coupling, Suzuki coupling, Kumada Coupling and Dehydrogenative cross-coupling covering recent important literatures.
