Abstract

The chemistry of germylium ions [R 3 Ge] + and of germylium ion-like species [R 3 Ge(Do)] + (Do = external or internal electron donating group) is summarized. Literature until the year 2020 is included in this review. Particular emphasis is given on their synthesis, their structural and spectroscopic characterization, and their reactivity.
