Es wird eine Methode beschrieben, die die Darstellung von α-Pyridonen aus α,β-ungesättiten Carbonyl-Verbindungen oder Keton-Mannich-Basen und N-[Aminoformyl-methyl]-pyridinium-Salzen gestattet. Mit Hilfe dieses Verfahrens gelang erstmalig die Synthese des Tabak-Nebenalkaloids Nicotellin.
