Abstract
It's all in the orientation: The orientational effect of p-YC6H4 (Ar) on δ(Se) has been empirically established by investigating 9-(arylselanyl)anthracenes (1) and 1-(arylselanyl)anthraquionones (2). The mechanism was elucidated through σp(Se) parameters calculated for ArSeR (R=H, Me, and Ph), assuming planar and perpeniclular conformers, based on the DFT-GIAO method.
