Abstract
Diversity in action: [IPrAuCl]/AgSbF6-catalyzed cyclization reaction of the readily available 4-benzoxyl-1-(indol-2-yl)-2-alkynols occurred in 1,2-dichloroethane in the presence of 4 Å molecular sieves to efficiently form a series of polysubstituted 2-oxygenated carbazole derivatives. A possible mechanism involving a 1,3-migration of benzoate group, a gold–carbene intermediate and a subsequent highly selective 1,2-migration is proposed for the formation of carbazoles.
