Abstract
Lasing on a sunny afternoon: Seven highly fluorescent new derivatives of BODIPY have been prepared by introduction of soft C-centered nucleophiles at the meso position. The resultant derivatives can be used for advanced sensing and photonic applications. The photophysical properties of the new dyes allow their applications as pH sensors and lasers in both the liquid and the solid state.
