Abstract
A scalable synthesis of 3-(1,2,4-oxadiazolyl)-5-nitratomethyl isoxazole, C6H3N4O5, its physical properties, and its theoretical performance values are described. This material was found to exhibit standalone melt-castable explosive properties with similar performance to TNT. Despite the presence of the nitric ester functionality, the synthesized material was found to have a lower impact and friction sensitivity than TNT.
