Background
Non‐occlusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI) is a rare, symptom‐scarce condition characterized by rapid progression and high mortality.
Case presentation
A 63‐year‐old male, after recovering from neutropenia following paclitaxel and cetuximab therapy, developed abdominal distension without subjective symptoms. Dynamic CT imaging suggested ischemia in the superior mesenteric artery region without vascular obstruction, leading to a diagnosis of NOMI. With no clear signs of intestinal necrosis, conservative treatment was chosen, but the patient succumbed within 14 h.
Conclusion
Cancer chemotherapy agents may induce intestinal ischemia. Stomatologists should be aware of this disease and facilitate timely referral to specialists for appropriate medical care.
