Abstract
Relaxation effects at non-conservative growth antiphase boundaries as well as at conservative glide boundaries have been studied by means of electron microscopy in the alloys Ni3Mo and Ni4Mo. It is shown that due to the presence of wrong bonds a relaxation of the lattice occurs along the interfaces. This gives rise to a small supplementary displacement ϵ, resulting in a residval contrast effect. The direction and the sense of ϵ have been determined from diffraction experiments. Glide antiphase boundaries produce a stronger residual contrast than growth boundaries; it is shown that this is associated with the presence of Mo-Mo first neighbours along the glide boundaries.
