High Resolution Electron Microscopic and Electron Diffraction Study of the AuMg System. I. The Monoclinic Au15 Mg4 Phase

Abstract
During a systematic study of the gold-rich side of the Au-Mg system a new phase with approximate composition Au15Mg4 is discovered using a combination of electron diffraction and high resolution electron microscopy. The new monoclinic structure can be described as a two-dimensional long period superstructure of the DO22 phase, the antiphase boundaries forming an angle of 115.35°. It is stable in the temperature range between 400 and 280 °C. At lower temperatures it evolves into a two-dimensional long period antiphase boundary structure presumably of the Au3+Zn-type.
Wahrend einer systematischen Untersuchung der goldreichen Seite des Au-Mg-Systems wird eine neue Phase mit der naherungsweisen Zusammensetzung Au15Mg4 mittels einer Kombination von Elektronenbeugung und hochauflosender Elektronenmikroskopie gefunden. Die neue monokline Struktur laast sich als zweidimensionale langperiodische Superstruktur der DO22-Phase beschreiben, wobei die Antiphasengrenzen einen Winkel von 115,35° bilden. Sie ist im Temperaturbereich zwischen 400 und 280 °C stabil. Bei niedrigeren Temperaturen entwickelt sie sich zu einer zweidimensionalen langperiodischen Antiphasengrenzenstruktur vom Au3+Zn-Typ.
