Abstract
In a time of environmental crisis, Innovative Pedagogies for Sustainability Education critically examine teaching methods that give students the knowledge and skills to build sustainable futures. Experiential learning, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), interdisciplinary approaches, and technology-enhanced learning connect students effectively and improve their problem-solving and real-world preparation to address complex sustainability issues. Understanding complex and interconnected environmental concerns requires fostering holistic learning across discipline boundaries. Community interaction is stressed to extend learning beyond the classroom and promote sustainability and community responsibility. This chapter makes a persuasive argument for novel sustainability education pedagogies despite resource and institutional restrictions. It requires a paradigm change toward more engaging, participatory teaching approaches that inform and encourage students to contribute to a sustainable future. Using theoretical understanding and practical examples can lead educators to achieve the realistic objectives of SDG, which have the potential to change sustainability education and the world. Consequently, this research questions how innovative pedagogies can improve students’ competencies in sustainability education and what the barriers and potential outcomes of these approaches are. Qualitative research method was implemented by conducting a comprehensive literature review, case analysis, context-based and several practical implementations of educational pedagogies. The data were collected from academic journals, reports from educational institutions, and real case studies about sustainability education. This research clearly concludes that Education for Sustainability (EfS) can provide a pedagogical platform to support students’ skills in designing innovative practices. Hence, students will be able to tackle issues of sustainable development (Androutsos Brinia 2020).
