Abstract
The direct condensation of diketones and 1,2-phenylenediamines was accomplished in the presence of magnetic MCM-41 supported ferrous sulfate (Fe3O4@FeSO4-MCM-41) as a nanosized solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of quinoxaline derivatives. Nanostructured Fe3O4@FeSO4-MCM-41 synthesized by a sol-gel method and the catalysts with different loading amounts of ferrous sulfate were prepared and characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM and VSM techniques. The characterization and optimization results show that Fe3O4@FeSO4-MCM-41 with a Fe (FeSO4):Si molar ratio of 0.02 with a calcination temperature of 450 ∘C has the best catalytic activity. The recyclability and reusability experiments show that the catalyst is reusable many times without noticeable loss of activity.
