Abstract
In the planetary boundary layer, due to the interaction of winds with the Earth's surface, turbulent viscosity comes into play; as a result, the winds show a significant deviation from the geostrophic balance. This chapter analyses ageostrophic winds in the planetary boundary layer, both convective and stably stratified, and in the thin surface layer.
