Abstract
In this chapter, the shallow-water evolution equations derived in the previous chapter are reformulated in terms of vorticity, thus obtaining an evolution equation for the so-called potential vorticity. The Lagrangian conservation of this quantity, valid in particular contexts, allows in a simple and intuitive way to obtain important dynamical information.
