Abstract
The clearance of blood deposits from the vitreous cavity is normally a slow process, and is frequently incomplete, but the reasons for this are not known. The pathological changes that occur within a vitreous haemorrhage have been likened to those that occur within a healing wound, particularly if some „irritative“ factor is present (Duke-Elder and Dobree 1967). If this concept of vitreous haemorrhage resolution is valid, then the failure of blood to clear completely implies a defect in the normal healing mechanism in the vitreous.
