Two novel energetic Ag(I) complexes: synthesis, crystal structure, and thermal investigations

Abstract

Two crystalline silver(I) complexes were synthesized by combining the ligand tris(pyrazole-1-yl) methane (L1) with silver chlorate, [AgCH(C3H3N2)3. ClO3] (I), and 3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (L2) with silver nitrate, [AgC2H2N4(C5H4N)2]NO3 (II). The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier ransform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structures and unit cell parameters of the complexes were determined. In both complexes, the Ag(I) central atom was found to be coordinated in a highly distorted tetrahedral configuration. The nitrogen donors of neighboring ligands coordinated two different Ag(I) ions, resulting in a polynuclear structure. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) indicated that complex I underwent decomposition through a two-step thermal decomposition occurring between 160 and 250 °C, whereas complex II experienced a rapid exothermic reaction within a very limited temperature range. Thermokinetic parameters of decompositions were determined by non-isothermal/isoconvertional kinetic methods, Ozawa–Flynn–Wall (OFW), and Kissenger–Akahira–Sunose (KAS). Thermodynamic parameters were calculated from two steps of the thermal decomposition for complex I and one step for complex II.
