Abstract
Photochemically initiated intramolecular crossed vs. parallel cyclobutane formation in cyclodecadiene and cyclodecadienone systems is examined by molecular mechanics (MM2) and quantum-chemical (CNDO/S-CI and INDO/S-CI) methods. The experimentally-observed results are interpreted on the basis of the interplay between conformational and electronic factors.
