High-pressure studies on the 90 K superconductors Y2Ba4Cu7O15 and (Y/Ca)Ba2Cu4O8

The superconductors Y 2 Ba 4 Cu 7 O 15−δ (2-4-7) and YBa 2 Cu 4 O 8 (1-2-4) with 7% Ca substitution, have been prepared in oxygen at one atmosphere and their superconducting transitions investigated at helium pressures of 4000 atmospheres. Both resistivity and AC susceptibility were monitored and the zero resistance T c (91 K for 2-4-7 and 86 K for 1-2-4) was found to rise linearly with pressure at rates of 3.0 K/GPa and 4.5 K/GPa respectively. These appear to be the highest pressure derivatives reported for 90 K superconductors.
