Abstract
This chapter elaborates the description, manufacturing procedures, metabolism, and pharmacokinetics of metoclopramide hydrochloride. The infrared spectrum of rnetoclopramide hydrochloride is presented in the chapter. The ultraviolet spectrum of metoclopramide hydrochloride in water has been obtained with a Beckman Mod. Among the synthetic methods leading to metoclopramide it seems suitable to report only the ones of greatest interest that are those using p-aminosalicilic acid, as starting product, a compound whose properties are economically excellent. The colorimetric assays have been the most widely used especially to determine metoclopramide in pharmaceutical preparations. Fluorimetric measurements are carried out in pH = 2 buffer solution on the basis of intense emission at 360 nm that occurs when the sample is excited at 310 nm. The determination of metoclopramide in biological fluids of man and of various animal species is the object of many communications.
