Ritter-Type Reaction

Publication typeBook Chapter
Publication date2025-01-01
Abstract
Ritter reaction has been widely applied to prepare amides, especially hindered amides since 1948. However, the classical Ritter reaction has its intrinsic problems, such as harsh reaction conditions, multi-step preparation of synthetic precursor, and use of solvent-quantities of nitrile. To address these problems, the relative investigation of Ritter-type reaction has received the considerable attention from synthetic chemists. Consequently, numerous achievements of Ritter-type reaction have been made. In this updated chapter, these achievements from 2012.01 to 2023.05 will be summarized and discussed in detail. Although some pioneer works were not reported during this period, which are also briefly reviewed. The current chapter is divided into eight sections, i.e., (1) introduction, (2) classical Ritter reaction, (3) Ritter-type reactions, (4) other Ritter-related reactions, (5) tandem Ritter reactions, (6) asymmetric Ritter reactions, (7) total synthesis of natural products using the Ritter reaction as a key step, and (8) summary.
