Abstract
In order to improve engineered tissues and overcome obstacles in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (TERM), nanoparticles (NPs) can be utilized. NPs have impressive properties, such as low toxicity, targeted/stimuli-response delivery potential, and accurate control over behavior by external stimuli. Based on the applications, various materials such as metals, polymers, ceramics and their different composites can be used to produce NPs. Due to their many valuable properties, including their potential in drug delivery, phototherapy, diagnosis, and the ability to enhance stem cell differentiation, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are widely used in nanomedicine and TERM nowadays. This chapter investigates the latest advances of AuNPs applications in tissue engineering. Afterward, the synthesis, modification, and properties of AuNPs have been reviewed. Finally, their application in different fields of tissue engineering has been discussed in detail.
