Abstract
Surgery is a crucial and risky procedure in biomedical applications and involves elongated postoperative care, hospital stay, loss of blood, etc. It has been estimated through reports that around 2.5% of patients die after the surgery, due to lack of postoperative care. In this chapter, the review on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)–based robotics surgery is presented. The scope of AI is not limited to robots performing surgery but also covers various domains such as pre/postoperative care, real-time patient monitoring, consultation, practical study on instruments involved in the surgery, etc. In this chapter, the current trends in robotic surgery are presented along with the limitation and the future scope of AI-assisted surgery.
