Low-level laser therapy and hydrotherapy are indicated for conservative management of degenerative joint disease. Hip dysplasia is a common development disease in dogs leading in to osteoarthritis , atrophy, and lameness. The aim was to evaluate effects of both modalities on impaired hindlimb function in dogs with hip dysplasia. Thirty-two both gender dogs of different breed aged from 2 to 10 (6.12 ± 2.97) years old with radiographically detected hip dysplasia for more than 1 year, without comorbidities, were selected and randomly elected as conventional (A), laser therapy (B), hydrotherapy (C), and both therapies group (D). Physical therapy was performed twice a week for 2 months in groups B, C, D, while group A did not undergo any rehabilitation program. Objective assessment was provided by thickness measurements of hindlimb muscles by ultrasound image, the thigh circumference, the goniometry of the hip and Canine Brief Pain Inventory for dog owners on days 0 and 60. Means of comparative measurements were different within each group and between groups ( P < 0.05). There were reductions in chronic pain indices and improvement in the quality of life of dogs in the treated groups. Both physical therapies showed better results in pain scores, joint motion and musculature maintenance.
