Abstract
ABO 3 -type perovskite oxides containing transition metals at the B site are effective catalysts for oxidation reactions. In this study, LaNiO 3 was prepared by the hydrolysis-precipitation method, and LaNiO 3 was modified with Mn by the impregnation method. LaNiO 3 showed higher CO oxidation activity than LaCoO 3 , LaMnO 3 , and LaFeO 3 . The high activity of LaNiO 3 was attributed to the reactivity of the lattice oxygen in LaNiO 3 , as confirmed by temperature-programmed reduction by H 2 (H 2 -TPR) and CO-TPR studies. The Mn-modified LaNiO 3 exhibited higher activity for benzene oxidation than LaNiO 3 . The CO oxidation properties of the Mn-modified LaNiO 3 catalysts correlated with their H 2 -reduction properties, whereas benzene oxidation properties were improved by the increasing amount of Mn on the catalyst surface. • LaNiO 3 was prepared by hydrolysis-precipitation method. • LaNiO 3 showed higher CO oxidation activity than LaCoO 3 . • Manganese-modified LaNiO 3 showed comparable activity to LaMnO 3 .
