Ruthenium(III) complexes with [(Me3tacn)Ru] units stabilized by monodentate thiourea-containing sulfur ligands (Me3tacn = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane)

Abstract
Four mononuclear ruthenium(III) thiourea complexes [(Me3tacn)Ru(SCN2H4)Cl2]PF6 (1), [{(Me3tacn)Ru(SCN2H4)Cl2}{(Me3tacn)Ru(SCN2H4)2Cl}]Cl(PF6)2 (2), [(Me3tacn)Ru(SCN2H4)2Cl](PF6)2 (3) and [(Me3tacn)Ru(SC2N2H6)2Cl](PF6)2 (4) were synthesized by [(Me3tacn)RuCl3·H2O] (Me3tacn = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7- triazacyclononane) with different equivalents of thiourea and its derivative in the presence of KPF6. Molecular structures of complexes 1, 2, 3·H2O and 4 were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The Epc values of −0.896, −0.905, −0.911 and − 0.905 V, respectively, for complexes 1–4 are assigned for the RuIII/II redox couple. The hydrogen bonds (N − H…Cl) formed by chlorine atoms and thiourea N − H were presented in all complexes, which makes the space arrangement between ligands closer.
