A thiourea-naphthol based turn-on fluorescent sensor for detecting In3+ and its application

A highly selective thiourea-naphthol based fluorescent chemosensor SC ((E)-2-((8-hydroxy-2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-1H,5H-pyrido[3,2,1-ij] quinolin-9-yl) methylene)-N-(naphthalen-1-yl) hydrazine-1-carbothioamide) for sensing In3+ was developed. Sensor SC could detect In3+ by a fluorescent turn-on method in aqueous solution. The detection limit of SC for In3+ is calculated to be 9.62 μM. In addition, sensor SC successfully functioned as a visible fluorescent test kit for detecting In3+, and quantification of In3+ was also successful in real water samples with satisfactory recovery. Sensing mechanism of SC towards In3+ was identified by fluorescent and UV–vis titrations, FT-IR, NMR titration, ESI-MS and theoretical calculations.
