Abstract
Natural Gas Hydrates (NGH) are a promising future energy resource, but efficient, safe extraction remains challenging. CO2 replacement technology enables NGH recovery while storing CO2, yet faces issues like unclear mechanisms, slow rates, and low reservoir recovery. This review examines replacement mechanisms and factors influencing hydrate kinetics, including thermal stimulation, pressure, small molecule gases, and chemical inhibitors. It explores enhancement strategies, identifies challenges in CO2 replacement, and suggests future directions. Summarizing recent research, it provides insights into advancing NGH extraction and CO2 sequestration in subsea environments, addressing key technical and scientific challenges.
