Metal Additive Manufacturing (MAM) for the repair of steel components has attracted considerable interest due to its advantages over traditional repair methods. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the corrosion aspects of steel parts repaired using MAM, emphasizing both the benefits and challenges associated with this innovative technology. A detailed comparison is made between various MAM repair techniques and conventional methods, focusing on their effects on corrosion resistance. Key factors related to MAM such as chemical composition, microstructure, galvanic couplings, defects, and post-processing techniques are examined concerning their influence on thecorrosion performance of steel-repaired components. This review identifies critical knowledge gaps, particularly concerning the need for further comparative studies and the long-term performance of MAM-repaired steel components in diverse environmental conditions. The findings underscore the experimental validation and the use of theoretical simulations to fully understand the capabilities and limitations of MAM in steel repair applications.
