Abstract
The genus of the direct product G × A of an arbitrary finite group G and a finite abelian group A is determined for many G and most abelian groups of sufficiently large rank. The computation uses the Jungerman and White current graphs for abelian groups, together with some observations about the rank of G × A that may be of independent interest.
