Abstract
The oscillating reaction between bromate and malonic acid in acidic solution (Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction, BZR) was found to be catalyzed by [Os(bipy) 3 ]SO 4 ·8H 2 O in the presence of an excess of 2,2-bipyridine. Reactant concentrations are very critical. Cr-bipyridine complexes obtained by various methods also were found to catalyze the BZR.
