Abstract
The correlation between octane number and fluid catalytic cracking gasoline chemical composition has been determined. The gasoline chemical composition is obtained by 1 H n.m.r. spectroscopy; the research octane number is determined according to the standard engine method (ASTM 2699) and the correlation is tested by applying a linear regression model. The method presented provides a determination of FCC gasoline RON from a small quantity of sample (⩽ 0.5 ml ) in only 30min with a satisfactory level of accuracy ( s = 0.451). The method is especially useful when only a small quantity of sample is available and where the standard engine method is not applicable.
