The performance of solgel scintillators in the radioassay of acid, base and neutral aqueous samples is discussed in detail. These scintillators are shown to be outstanding for both aqueous and non-aqueous samples. A two-phase colloidal system where the effective micelle size of the aqueous phase is negligibly small, compared to the range of the tritium beta particle, is shown to exist at sample concentrations from 1 to 55% by volume.
