Thermodynamics of the Ti-C-O system at 1580 k

The standard free energy of formation of the titanium oxycarbide TiCxO1−x was calculated at 1580 K in the composition range 0.67 ⩽ x ⩽ 1.0. The activity of titanium in the oxycarbide phase and the titanium pressure over TiCxO1−x were evaluated at 1580 K. A thermodynamic study of the quasi-binary TiC-TiO solid solution leads to the conclusion that this system exhibits negative deviation from ideality.
