Samples of YBa 2 Cu 3 O x (6.0≤ x ≤7.0) were prepared by a UHV desorption-absorption procedure. By employing this technique it is possible to obtain controlled and reproducible oxygen contents in order to study physical and structural properties correlated to the oxygen stoichiometry. Cell constants, phase transformations and superconducting transition temperatures are given as a function of oxygen content and/or temperature. The experimental results supply the basis for a partial, pseudobinary phase diagram for the orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transition.
