Abstract
A brief history of the development of cemented carbides for mining, construction and wear parts is given in this chapter. Special features of applications of tungsten carbide-cobalt cemented carbides in mining, construction and as wear parts subjected to abrasive wear, erosion and corrosion are described. Basic industrial coarse- and ultra-coarse-grain cemented carbides and tools for mining and construction and typical medium- and ultrafine-grain cemented carbide grades for wear parts are presented. Modern trends in the research and development of novel cemented carbides for mining, construction and wear parts are outlined including functionally graded cemented carbides, nanostructured cemented carbides and diamond-enhanced cemented carbides.
