Abstract
Due to their important biological functions, G-quadruplex (G4) DNA structures have been identified as potential drug targets. Consequently, the interactions of a large number of compounds with G4s and their biological effects have been investigated. While the majority of G4 binders reported to date are based on purely organic molecules, over the past two decades metal complexes have received increasing attention. This chapter provides an overview of metal complexes as G4 binders including a discussion of their properties, in vitro characterization of their affinity and selectivity to G4 structures and cellular studies.
