Abstract
The crystal structure, microstructure, density and compression properties of a novel AlNbTiVZr 0.5 high entropy alloy are reported. After homogenization the alloy is composed of bcc matrix phase containing Laves and Zr 2 Al-type second phase particles. The alloy has low density of 5.64 g cm − 3 . The yield strength of the alloy gradually decreases from 1430 MPa at room temperature to 680 MPa at 800 °C and drops to 75 MPa at 1000 °C. The alloy can be compressed to 50% height reduction without fracture at temperatures from room to 1000 °C. Surface cracking is observed only at room temperature. The specific yield strength and ductility of the AlNbTiVZr 0.5 alloy is compared with properties of other high entropy alloys intended for high-temperature usage.
