Abstract
Acidic microenvironment caused by osteoclast was the main reason for bone mineral resorption. It was very meaningful for understanding the dissolving process of bone mineral in such acidic microenvironment. The dissolving mechanisms of nanosized hydroxyapatite (HA, the main component of bone mineral) were investigated in this study. The results showed that the specific surface area of HA increased whereas the crystallinity decreased with increasing the reaction time in all acidic solutions. In addition, HA exhibited different absorption behaviors in different acidic solutions. Citric acid mainly absorbed on the c-plane by forming numerous defects, whereas lactic acid mainly absorbed on the a-plane of HA. The mixed acidic solution could accelerate the HA absorption.
