Unusual transformations of 7-imino-6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]oct-3-ene-1,8,8-tricarbonitriles in acidic media

Abstract
The transformations of 7-imino-6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]oct-3-ene-1,8,8-tricarbonitrile derivatives in various hydrochloric acid media were studied. It was found that, depending on the reaction conditions, either hydrolysis of the imino group and isolation of the corresponding 7-oxo-6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]oct-3-ene-1,8,8-tricarbonitriles occured or a cascade transformation takes place to form 2-chloro-1,6,6-tricyanocyclohex-3-ene-1-carboxamides.
