Abstract
Indium mediates the coupling of ethyl 4-bromocrotonate with carbonyl compounds in water to give the corresponding β-hydroxy-α-vinyl carboxylates in good yield and high anti-diastereoselectivity. Furthermore, the use of lanthanide triflate increases the rate and selectivity of the reactions.
