Abstract
A two-step, one-pot domino reaction methodology was developedto synthesize a variety of N-formylindolinesand N-formyltetrahydroquinolines fromthe corresponding indoles and quinolines. In the first step, theheterocyclic compounds are reduced to the corresponding dihydroor tetrahydro products by a Pd/C-catalyzed transfer hydrogenationusing formic acid as a hydrogen donor. In the second step, nitrogenis formylated by formic acid to afford the final products in verygood isolated yields.
