ESR Study of Radicals Formed by γ Irradiation of K2PdCl4 and (NH4)2PdCl4 Single Crystals

An X-band ESR study of γ-irradiated single crystals of K2PdCl4 and (NH4)2PdCl4 has been made at 77°K. Two radicals are observed, one of which is shown to be PdCl43− with a 4d9 configuration and dx2−y2 ground state; the complete g, A(105Pd) and A(35Cl) tensors have been reported for this species. The second radical is believed to be PdCl52−, and its ESR parameters are presented and discussed.
