Abstract
A wide range of inorganic crystal hydrates possessing proton conductivity is analysed. The possible mechanisms of defect formation and proton transfer are considered, including those for a series of specific compounds. The main directions in the search of compounds having high proton conductivity at room temperature are outlined. The bibliography includes 65 references.
