Abstract
The authors describe an amelioration method of modified continuous suture technique during conjunctival free graft. This method was designed to reduce the patient's discomfort and operation time. After the resection of the pterygium, the superotemporal bulbar conjunctiva was harvested, fashioning a 1-mm oversized rectangular free graft adjacent to the limbus. The initial single interrupted suture was fixated at the superior limbus, and a continuous suture was made circumferentially in the rectangular form to the inferior limbus using a 10-0 nylon suture. Every apex of the square was placed by the closed-loop interrupted suture. We have successfully reduced the operation time to approximately 20 minutes and ameliorated the postoperative stinging pain until suture is removed after 2 weeks. No wound dehiscence was observed, and no recurrence was detected until 6 months after the procedure. This technique can allow the surgeon performing the time-consuming conjunctival free graft to save surgical time and help the patients feel less pain after surgery.
