Comparison of Performance of YASA Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Motor with Interior Tangential Rotor and Sticker Rotor

Abstract
To study whether the yokeless and segmented armature axial-flux interior permanent-magnet (YASA-AF-IPM) has more advantages in electromagnetic performance than the traditional the yokeless and segmented armature axial-flux permanent-magnet (YASA-AFPM) when applied to electric vehicles, the structure and characteristics of two kinds of motors with different topologies were analyzed, and the YASA-AF-IPM and YASA-AFPM motor were designed respectively by finite element method. The operation performance of two kinds of motors with different topologies is compared and analyzed in the aspects of no-load back electromotive force, rated torque, torque ripple, eddy current loss of permanent magnet, and anti-demagnetization ability of permanent magnet. The results show that the YASA-AF-IPM motor has good performance and certain advantages. It can be used as one of the strong competitors for electric vehicle generator design.
