Abstract
Waveguide and horn antennas with elliptical polarization of the radiation field are extensively applied in radio detection and location, satellite communication, and other branches of radio engineering. Because of their high reliability, electric strength and technological effectiveness, such antennas are promising for use in onboard radio systems. However, in practical application of antennas, there are common restrictions as regards their overall longitudinal dimensions. In view of this, the principal task is to reduce longitudinal dimensions while maintaining frequency and polarization characteristics of the antennas. This research paper discusses a waveguide radiator on the basis of a polarizer with an integrated slow-wave structure in the form of a linear partition and two protrusions. Design parameters, frequency and polarization characteristics are given. Possibility to reduce overall longitudinal dimensions twofold, when compared with the existing analogues, is suggested. Directional characteristics for the working band-width of 8-8.5 GHz are addressed.
