Abstract
The carbonization kinetics of anhydrous and hydrated lithium hydroxide has been studied in the constant-volume batch mode at various pressures and temperatures. The carbonization rate of LiOH is tens times higher than that of LiOH · H2O; it is virtually independent of temperature but increases in proportion to the 0.30 power of the CO2 pressure. The monohydrate carbonization rate is virtually independent of the CO2 pressure; it is controlled by the dehydration of the crystal hydrate. For both lithium hydroxide species, the carbonization kinetics correspond to the instantaneous entrance of the whole surface of the reagent to the reaction without a barrier product layer; the kinetics obey the Avrami-Erofeev equation.
